Statement of Work

Benefiting from the iPhone Pro 12 during the Covid lock-down was the way of investigating my immediate world, placing meaningful objects in magical ‘sets,’ playing with light, color and composition creating a new visual language.

Since I created this body of abstract photos, I look at them objectively and I’m stunned how they relate to everyday life – in exhibitions, newspapers, advertisements, movies, all visual encounters. We live in a visually fractured world of images constantly moving. We are effected by this pace subconsciously absorbing the visual culture imposed on us.

It is an exciting challenge for me as an artist reflecting my world as I look around and attempt to control these many conflicting stimulations. There are playful times, too, when I create a visual joke, perhaps too subjective for the viewer, but the viewer is free to wend his/her way through the maize of optical puzzles and mysteries to create a new world.

Along with the works which were exhibited at the Redwood Library, Newport R.I., other images here are part of my continuing exploratory process investigating perception, mystery, poetry and are thought provoking – tapping into one’s own psyche for understanding.

All images are created from my own visual world at home.

Statement Excerpt from Benedict Leca
Director of Curatorial Affairs,
Redwood Library and Athenaeum
Newport, RI

“These remarkable images evidence an artist willfully evading the confines of solitude and the quotidian, transgressing both through a radical probing of the limits of her medium…By destabilizing the long-held assumptions of the peaceable gaze out into the world, these photographs push us to examine whether we are ready to accept or reject our fast-paced present. As Boden would have it, rationalizing the world need not necessarily be an anxious practice, but one open to humor, visual puns, and optical puzzles to be decoded by the viewer.” View More
